No Reindeer and Sleigh for Operation Sandy Claus Deployment to Galveston

This visit from Mr. Claus came, not from the North Pole but instead from Central Texas. It came, not by sleigh and eight tiny reindeer but, by 5th wheel trailer and pickup truck. The trailer was loaded to the top with "stuff".

Something new was added to the lawn, next to Galveston EMS' station, known as "The Sub". Within moments of arrival in Galveston, the trailer became the forward operating location for the Volunteer Mobile Emergency Response Unit (VMERU) and Longhorn Student EMS.

Two Caldwell County Fires Bracket VMERU Mission to Galveston

As the Volunteer Mobile Emergency Response Unit (VMERU) prepared to deploy to Galveston for Christmas week in its most ambitious mission to date, the Unit was dispatched to a structure fire, near Lockhart to provide support for responding FireFighters.

Crews from Lockhart, Chisolm Trail, Kyle, and Maxwell Fire Departments battled the fire while VMERU provided water, sports drinks and snacks under the blue "Rehab" flag.

The next morning, VMERU rolled into Galveston to provide a week of hope and cheer to emergency workers.

Donated Blankets and Heaters chase away the chills for Galveston FireFighters and EMS

On Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008, Volunteer Mobile Emergency Response Unit (VMERU) delivered electric blankets and electric heaters (and other goodies) to FireFighters and EMS, posted at Crenshaw school on the Bolivar Peninsula.

Items were donated by people and organizations in Central Texas and delivered to the school which is being used as a temporary Fire and EMS station in Hurricaine Ike ravaged Crystal Beach.

The Volunteer Mobile Emergency Response Unit was dispatched to Hwy 195 and SR 241 in Williamson County on August 8th 2008. We responded at 1720 Pm and were on scene until released by the IC(incident command)at 0940 on August 9th 2008.

The report is as follows:

A large fire in Williamson County Thursday afternoon threatened dozens of homes.
